1)AAP’s office attacked : Aam Aadmi Party leader Prashant Bhushan’s suggestion for a referendum on the deployment of the Army in Jammu and Kashmir to deal with internal security took an ugly turn.The leader of a right-wing group led a mob attack on the party’s head office at Kaushambi in Ghaziabad and vandalised it. Glass panes and flower pots were broken and a woman party worker narrowly escaped unhurt after a stone was hurled at the office. The party called in the police, but refused police protection for its members.The Ghaziabad police registered complaints under various sections of the Indian Penal Code. They later arrested Bhupender Tomar alias Pinky Chaudhary of the Hindu Raksha Dal, who allegedly led the attack. Twelve others were also held on charge of vandalism. The accused is reported to have said that the group was against Mr. Bhushan’s remarks.

2)Priyanka can neutralise BJP wave in coastal region:  Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, daughter of UPA Chairperson and Congress president Sonia Gandhi, decides to play a more active role in the party in the run-up to the Lok Sabha elections, party leaders here hope to rope her in to campaign in the Karnataka coast.They say Ms. Vadra can draw many youngsters and women to vote for the Congress, and contain the efforts of the BJP, which woo voters through “religion-based politics”. In the last parliamentary elections in 2008, all the three seats in coastal districts in the state were won by the BJP. In the by-election to Udupi-Chikmagalur constituency, necessitated by the resignation of D.V. Sadananda Gowda, the Congress won the seat.

3)Mamata did not want me to continue Says Ganguly : Describing the situation in West Bengal as one under a “totalitarian regime where no dissent is allowed,” Justice (retd.) Asok Kumar Ganguly said on Wednesday that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee did not like his continuing as Chairperson of the West Bengal Human Rights Commission, a post he quit earlier this week. “She never liked my continuance. She made her displeasure clear when I gave my order in the Ambikesh Mahapatra case [related to the circulation of graphics of Ms. Banerjee] … The next day, she blasted out against me. This is on record,” he told journalists at his residence here.

4)BJP leaders differ on tie-up with TDP : Divergent opinions were aired by the State BJP leaders on the question of having an electoral tie-up with TDP at their meeting with BJP national president Rajnath Singh.Mr. Singh arrived here on Tuesday to attend a meeting with top brass of RSS on Thursday, the concluding day of the three-day all-India executive of the body. It was a kind of homecoming for former Union Minister Krishnam Raju, who rejoined the party in the presence of Mr. Singh

5)Ridiculous for banks to charge for withdrawals at own ATMs : Indian Banks’ Association to start charging customers for ATM withdrawals, Reserve Bank of India Deputy Governor KC Chakrabarty has said that such a move on the part of banks would be ‘ridiculous’ and ‘illogical’. Mr Chakrabarty says “it is very, very ridiculous that banks are charging the customers for withdrawing money, and that too from their own ATMs — it never happens anywhere.” He goes on to add that this is something that only further competition in the industry can rectify. “If the cost of withdrawing money is so high so that they charging you, then they may just start charging you even if you go to a bank branch. That is why I feel we require more banks, there is not enough competition and bank .

6)Dhoni, Raina to launch 7 Premier League in Dubai tomorrow : Indian Skipper MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina will launch the 7 Premier League in Dubai tomorrow. The 7 Premier League or the 7 PL will feature teams from Seven Countries India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, South Africa, England and Australia.The league will be played between seven teams, each representing the seven UAE emirates.

7)Hockey World League trophy unveiled : Hockey World League Final to be played at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium here from January 10 inside a five-star hotel on Wednesday, 500-odd children waved banners outside demanding the Bharat Ratna for the hockey legend.The two events were unrelated but highlighted the contrast in Indian hockey – a glorious but long-forgotten past, a hopeful present and an uncertain future, all struggling for recognition.The upcoming competition, Hockey India hoped, would help in get some recognition.

8)Aamir wants to make film on Maulana Azad : Actor Aamir Khan on Wednesday expressed his desire to make a film on country’s first Education Minister, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad. He described him Azad as an “extremely intelligent” with a “progressive mind” whose predictions have come true 65 years after Independence. “I hope that some day ..this is the dream I have… I can use the capabilities that I have and the art form that I practice to make a film on Maulana Azad and to bring his life to a larger populace of India,” the actor said speaking at the fifth edition of Apeejay Kolkata Literary Festival in the city that was inaugurated with a special tribute to Maulana Azad.
