·           Bharat Muni Samman: Renowned actress and Bharatanatyam exponent Hema Malini was presented the prestigious Bharat Muni Samman for this year for her outstanding contribution to the field of art and culture.

·           Sangeet Natak Akademi Award: Legendary South Indian composer Ilayaraja is among nine artists from the field of music who will receive the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for 2012.

·           Tagore Peace Prize: An Emirati poet, who is well known for translating Indian poetry in Arabic, has become the first from the Arab world to win the Tagore Peace Prize. Shihab Ganem has been awarded the prize for his achievements in the field of poetry and its translation, as well as his contribution to developing and understanding that are in compliance with the values of humanity, love and peace .The Tagore Award was instituted by the Indian government to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore, for promoting values of universal brotherhood.

·           Jnanpith Award: Leading Oriya novelist and academician Pratibha Ray, who has over 40 novels, travelogues and short stories to her credit, was named for the prestigious Jnanpith Award

·           Pushkin Award: former Head of the Russian department at the Kerala University K.Govindan Nair has won the Pushkin Award of the Russian Federation.

·           Hinduism 3rd largest religion of World:  Hinduism is the third largest religion of the world after Christianity and Islam and 97% of all Hindus live in three Hindu majority countries- India, Nepal and Mauritius, according to a study. India, which accounts for majority of world’s Hindus, is also home to almost all the major religions of the world, a Pew research said.
·           Connaught Place world’s 5th most expensive office location: Connaught Place, located in the heart of the National Capital, is the fifth most expensive office destination in the world, according to global property consultant CBRE.Hong Kong (Central) tops the list of world’s most expensive office markets list with an annual occupancy cost of USD 246.3 per sq ft. followed by London’s West End, Tokyo’s Marunouchi Otemachi, Beijing’s Central Business District (CBD) and New Delhi’s CBD.

·           Time named Obama Person of the Year: Time Magazine has named President Barack Obama as its Person of the Year citing his historic re-election “turning weakness into opportunity and for seeking, amid great adversity, to create a more perfect union.

·           Beckham, Pattinson among Most Stylish Men of 2012: The GQ magazine has revealed a list of “ most stylish men of 2012” with actor Daniel Craig topping the list which also features footballer David Beckham, Actor Zac Efron is at number 2, Beckham came at number 3, musician Bruno Mars at four and actor Ewan McGregor is at number five.

·           India ranked 40th among most dynamic Economies: India has been ranked at a low position of 40 among 50 economies in the world in terms of “dynamism” , which was topped by Singapore, in a list compiled by assurance, tax and advisory firm Grant Thornton.

·           Mukesh Ambani 18th richest man in world: Indian business magnate Mukesh Ambani is the 18th richest person in the world with a personal wealth of $ 24.7 billion in 2012, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, a daily ranking of the World’s 100 wealthiest individuals.

·           India abysmal on human freedom development index, ranked 92 among 123 nations: India may be the world’s largest democracy, but it fares abysmally poor in a human freedom index brought out by two international institutes.

·           Gujarat topped list of states in terms of economic freedom: Gujarat has topped the list of 20 large states in terms of economic freedom, governance and inclusive growth, says a report released. The top state in India in terms of economic freedom in 2011 was Gujarat. It displaced Tamil Nadu which had been at the top in 2009, said the report of ‘Economic Freedom of the States of India 2012’ which was released by former RBI Governor and present Rajya Sabha Member Bimal Jalan.According to the report prepared by noted economists Bibek Debroy, Laveesh Bhandari, Ashok Gulati and Swaminathan Aiyer, Gujarat is followed by Tamil Nadu and Madhya Pradesh. West Bengal, Jharkhand and Bihar figured in the bottom three in terms of economic freedom index for 2011.
